Interests

Rebekah Slodounik, Lecturer of German, earned her Ph.D. in Germanic Languages and Literatures from the University of Virginia in 2016.

Her research focuses on the transmission of Holocaust memory through narrative in German Jewish and American Jewish post-Holocaust literature.  In addition to Jewish Studies and Holocaust Studies, her research employs narrative theory.  At the University of Virginia, Ms. Slodounik has taught all levels of the language sequence, as well as a course on the literature of the Holocaust in English translation.  In January 2016, she served as the Faculty Director for the University of Virginia in Berlin January Term Program on "Berlin and the Geography of Memory."  In Fall 2016, Ms. Slodounik is a Visiting Assistant Professor of German Studies at The College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Va.  At William and Mary, Ms. Slodounik will teach German 1010 and an upper-level advanced German literature course on German Jewish literature from 1890-1933.
